I’m about two months old, small right now, with paws that still feel a little too big for my body and ears that curl just enough to make people smile. I was surrendered to a shelter in Porterville with my siblings, which means my life started a little louder and faster than I would have chosen. But I’m here now, and I’m safe. That part matters.

So far, I’m a calm kind of puppy. I don’t rush into things. I like to sit back, watch what’s happening, and decide when I’m ready. I’ll probably grow into my confidence with time, but right now I’m more thoughtful than wild. The kind of pup who checks in with you before wandering off. No one’s totally sure what my breed mix is. Maybe there’s a little dachshund in me because I have a longer body? Maybe some spaniel because of the curls on my ears? I’m your classic husky. A little dramatic, highly expressive, and way too smart for my own good. I don’t bark just to bark. I speak. I tell you when I’m bored, when I’m happy, when I’ve spotted a squirrel I simply must investigate. My ears are always perked. My heart? Wide open. I’m about two years old, and life hasn’t always been soft, but somehow, I still believe the best days are ahead.

Right now I’m stuck in a shelter full of other huskies. It’s loud. It’s cold. Everyone’s trying their best, but the truth is there are more of us than there are chances. A lot of people look right past me. “Too much energy.” “Too much fur.” But I’m not too much. I’m just waiting for someone who gets me.

Someone who sees that when I do my little tap-dance spin in the kennel, it’s not chaos. It’s hope. Someone who notices that even when I’m surrounded by noise, I keep checking in, keep trying to make eye contact, keep believing that one day soon, it’ll be my turn.
